Conductor

A truly modern and protean artist, Bastien Stil stands out as a conductor for his precise and committed interpretation of the symphonic and operatic repertoires.

Graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP) in 2001, it was in 2010, after a rich career as an instrumentalist, that he decided to devote himself fully to conducting and set off to perfect his skills with Neil Thomson (Royal College of Music) and John Farrer (USA). He also trained in the operatic repertoire at the Opéra de Rouen-Normandie, as assistant to Antony Hermus, and in 2018 won the 1st Bucharest International Conducting Competition.

He has recently been invited by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, and regularly collaborates with the most prestigious ensembles (Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Orquestra Sinfonica do Porto Casa da Musica, the French national orchestras of Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux and Toulouse, the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra). Bastien Stil’s repertoire ranges from the classics to today’s avant-garde, and includes projects at the crossroads of musical genres, as well as film music in concert or on screen.

He has also directed the creation and recording of works by Raphael Cendo, Bastien David, Olga Neuwirth, Sasha Blondeau, François Meïmoun, Vasco Mendoça, Pedro Amaral and David Hudry, and has collaborated with artists such as Wayne Shorter, Avishai Cohen, Stacey Kent, Lizz Wright, Magma, Jaz Coleman, Marcus Roberts, Bernard Lavilliers, Arthur H and Philippe Katerine.

His discography is equally representative, at the head of the National Orchestra of Ukraine, with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Opéra de Rouen-Normandie and the Prague Radio Orchestra.

In 2024, he was appointed Artistic and Musical Director of the French Republican Guard Orchestra.
